What to Expect
Like all of our KH sports, our focus is building Christ-like character through competitive sports. We believe discipleship can flourish in these environments.
Basketball is difficult and challenging. We embrace this, and we use this great sport to help our young men and women understand that you “cannot do hard things half-way.”
Our basketball team is highly competitive, with every age ascending in competition and development.
Practices for our 14-Under, 16-Under, and 18-Under teams are typically 2-3 times per week, with individual skill development and conditioning required.
Playing time is earned, as this is part of the process of teaching important values to be learned and developed.
Off-season practices run from May through July and are mandatory, but church activities and family times take priority.
We play approximately 30 games per year from August-January, including at least two tournaments per year.

Cliff Jenkins
Cliff Jenkins is the head coach of the Ladyhawks Basketball team. Cliff is the pastor of Temple Baptist Church in Laurel Mississippi. He has coached for the program since 2015. He and his family have been involved in the Knighthawks program since 2012.

Davy Fenton
Davy Fenton is the Head Coach of our Boys Knighthawks basketball program. He is the Pastor of Mt. Vernon Church in Laurel. He and his wife Michelle have three children, all of whom have been involved in KH athletics. Davy has been involved in KH athletics since 2013 having coached the Varsity Boys team from 2013-2019, was an Assistant Coach with our Varsity Girls team from 2020-2021, and was involved with our 12-Under program from 2021-2024. Davy's background is as a player through high school and small college basketball.

Shon Spradley
Shon Spradley is the assistant coach of the Knighthawks Basketball Program. He has coached for both the girl's and boy's programs in various positions since 2014.

Anthony Powell
Basketball has been an integral part of Coach Powell's life. He grew up in a “basketball” household with his daddy having coached basketball in his earlier years. Anthony played high school basketball from 1973 to 1976 for the Waynesboro Central Panthers. In his three years at Waynesboro Central, his team won 64 games and lost 25 under the direction of Jones County native Robbie Walters. Out of necessity (family life, work, his kids' involvement in other sports...), he sort of stepped away from the official game of basketall for several years, but became involved in youth sports, spending 21 years coaching six of his seven kids in Dixie Youth Baseball, many years coaching two different teams and even coaching three different teams one year. 2020 brought him back to the gym when his daughter Amelia turned to Lady Knighthawks basketball because of her other activities being cancelled. What a refreshing blessing Knighthawks basketball was and still is to our entire family! The next couple of years saw his sons Isaac and Elon turn to Knighthawks basketball. In 2023 Anthony stepped into the role as assistant coach for both boys' and girls' teams. He currently enjoys helping Cliff Jenkins coach the varsity girls' team. Away from the gym, Anthony works at Silvaris, a building products wholesaler. He and his wife Pam have seven children: Rosalie, Ben, Rebekah, Elon, Isaac, Amelia, and Rhiannon; and two three-year-old granddaughters, Maggie and Aaliyah.
Our History
The Knighthawks Basketball program was created in 2008 by Scoutmaster Scott Wiggins. Scoutmaster Scott Wiggins had been leading Boy Scout Troop #38, which was started by the men of Audubon Drive Church in Laurel, MS. The boys in the troop enjoyed their scouting activities; however Scoutmaster Scott had a vision for these boys (especially his 3 young sons). Scott wanted to develop all aspects of these young men. He decided to start a Boy Scout Venture Troop for the purpose of allowing his Boys to also play basketball. For the most part, the team was composed of Troop 38 Boy Scouts; however, a few additional young men were determined to solely join the basketball team. Obviously, spending so much time together would help these young men to form bonds and lasting friendships. The team was formed immediately prior to the emerging homeschool basketball season with little time to prepare. Dennis Alldy, coach of the Hattiesburg Forerunners, was instrumental in advising Coach Scott in the formation of the team and helping determine next steps. The team held their practices in the Grace Covenant church gym and mostly played Away games. The team did not have an official name at this time. Coach Scott affectionately called this band of brothers the “Bandits.” Also, the uniform was simply matching t-shirts. Since then, the Knighthawks Basketball program has grown exponentially.
